THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL.

A page of sketches of tho recent children’s fancy dress ball at tho Sydney street Hall, which are reproduced in line from original pen and ink drawings, specially made by Miss Bendall, a Wellington artist, is the most interesting feature of this week’s "Mail.”

A splendid enlarged reproduction of a photograph of Miss _ Marjorie Joseph as "Queen of the Fairies,” at "Ye Oldo Englisbe Eayre,” is one of tho beet illustrations of tho kind that has been produced in New Zealand. ■Bowling enthusiasts will find much to plcaso them in a largo number of views taken- at the. opening of the Napier, Hastings, Kelburnc, and Thorndon greens. <

Some of tho leading prize exhibits at the recent A. and I’. Show are well illustrated. A view of tho front elevation of tho new Town Hall organ gives a good idea of tho imposing appearance that instrument will present when completed. A new portrait of Miss Jessie Maclachlan will serve as an excellent memento of tho second visit of that talented lady to Wellington. The letterpress of this week is particularly varied and interesting. An excellent selection of fiction is presented, and there are many bright and informative general articles. “Literary Notes,” "Tho Wavs of Women,” “Plays and Players," "The Turf,” “Athletics,” and “Farm, Dairy, and Station” may be mentioned as departments of the "Mail,” which are replete with news and good reading.
