CRICKET.

A meeting of the management committee of tho Wellington Cricket Association was held Inst night. Permission was given the Johnsonville Club to withdraw its junior team from tho competition, and to tho Good Templars’ Club to withdraw its third-class team. A formal caution was passed to two players who had refused to cease practising on tho Basin Reservo after their attention had been drawn to tho fact that they were doing so in contravention of a city by-law. They were practising with, out nets—a procedure which is forbidden on account of tho danger involved. A deputation consisting of Messrs It. Darroch, Joplin, and Fanning waited on the association to represent the needs of the Schoolboys’ Association. They asked for bettor practice and match wickets, and for financial assistance towards public schools representative matches. The ground committee was instructed to find out what could bo done in tho way of preparing wickets for the boys. The deputation was recommended to apply to the ‘ Ay Council for exclusive use on Saturay mornings of that part of tho Basin Reserve which is not under the jurisdiction of the Cricket Association. If the application was granted, tha assocation would take steps to prepare wickets on that_ portion of tho ground. A grant of i-t as was made to the Schoolboys’ Association.

Several private letters have been rcceiv°d in Wellington showing that prominent New South Wales cricketers are anxious to bring a touring team to New* Zealand.
