In committee on tho motion of the item Mr Pitt the clerks and commissioned officers of the permanent defence forces were added to the list to receive tho benefits of tho bill. Tho Hon Mr lligg moved to extend tho scheme to the men of the defence forces in addition to tho commissioned officers. —Lost by 17 votes to 2 (Hons ‘Messrs Iligg and Pinkerton). Thi rd reading was carried on tho voices FACTORIES ACT. When tho Factories Act Amendment Hill was in committee, tho Hon Mr Uigg moved to amend the clause dealing with the remuneration of factory workers, and it was agreed that in the case of a person nob under twenty years of age who has been employed in any capacity in a factory or •faefcries for a period of not less than four years, a rate of 20s a week shall lie paid.
