LAND SALE.
The Mudgway Block, Petone, has been taken over by’the Government from the Mudgway Land Company. It consists of ■147 sections, being some of the best sites in the district, level and admirably suited for close settlement. This farm is well known as having been in the Mudgway famiiv since the early days of Wellington, and extends from Jackson street to White’s line (the Hutt boundary). Therefore it is equally suitable for workers from the Hutt or Petone. Tho price paid by the Government is over £30,000, and they are considered to have made a remarkably good bargain, as adjoining land has been selling at a considerably higher figure. ’Settlement in Petone should be increased by about 3000 persons (averaging five to each family) when these blocks are settled. Tho subdivisions for reading are already completed, and sections have been pegged out for immediate occupation. Messrs Dwan Bros, and Henry Savage, who secured the land from. Mudgway Bros., and formed the company for tho development of same, completed the negotiations between the Mudgway Land Company and the Government.
