SALVATION ARMY.

RESULTS OF “SELF-DENIAL.” A meeting was held in the Salvation Army Citadel, Vivian street, last night (for the purpose of announcing the amounts collected during “ self-denial week,” a period set apart, in each year for appealing to the public for aid to tho Army’s funds. Lantern slides were used to announce the results, which wore received with great enthusiasm. Brigadier Albiston was in command. Tho firtt series of slides showed the amounts collected by various organisations and homes connected with tho Army and hy individual soldiers. Each collector was rewarded with the applause or the meeting. When the slide, “Lasses’ Band—£7o,” appeared there was exceptional enthusiasm, the cheering last'ng for minutes. Brigadier Albiston, in remarking on tho success of the collectors in Wellington in securing an increase of £7O on tho total of last year, said there was great cause to give glory 'to God for the amount raised. Tho totals for tho various divisions of tho colony are: —Maori district—£34 (a rise of £7 on last year’s amount). Auckland division—£lßs4 (rise £112). Christchurch division—£2olß (rise £273). Dunedin division—£22oo (rise £79). Wellington division—£3l76 (rise £618). The total for tho colony is £9282, showing an increase of £lOBl on the amount collected last year. The amounts for the four cities are:—Wellington, £7OO 10s; Christchurch, £430; Dunedin, £400; Auckland, £350. There is evidence of a “willing spirit." in tho Salvation Army at Masterton. The collections for the “selfdenial" fund in that town having been successful, a demonstration was held tho other night. Tho demonstrators, according to Brigadier Albiston, who told tho story at tho meeting held in the Citadel last night, were so numerous that they blocked a public thoroughfare. As a consequence a summons was served on tho officers commanding the corps, and they were to go before the Magistrate yesterday. On© of the officers bad promised that, provided he was not imprisoned, ho would telegraph tho result of tho case to Brigadier Albiston. “ I have not received a wire," said tho Brigadier.
