It was too good to last. About 3.30 rain-clouds banked up ominously to the north-west, and before 4 o’clock the rain was pattering steadily on tho deserted greens. Terms of disgust at the weather were' frequent and free in the pavilions, and at tho Wellington Club’s green Captain Edwin came in for a rough bundling at tho hands and tongues of disappointed players. He pleaded innocence, and was let off with a caution. Play had necessarily to be abandoned at all tho city greens. WELLINGTON CLUB FIXTURES. HUTT CLUB. - There was a large attendance of* bowlers and their friends at thw^Lower Hurt green 1 on Saturday afternoon, including several teams from Petene and Wellington, and a good number of ladies. The president (Mr W. G. Foster) welcomed the visitors, and congratulated the club on tho state of the green, and the large attendance. Airs Foster then throw the “jack,” and the president declared the green open. Teams chosen bv the president and vice-president commenced to play, but heavy rain setting in. play had to be abandoned. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies. The club is to bo complimented on the fine grounds it has had prepared.
