ELECTRIFYING THE HUTT LINE.

(To the Editor “N.Z. Times.”) Sir —The opposition of the City Council to’ the electrification of the Hutt line, for that is the meaning of its action, is not in good taste, to say the least of it. -It is not so verv long since the City Council was repudiating all its responsibilities towards the suburbs, more especially the “No Man’s Land” between the Cifv and Onslow, which was a quagmire every winter for forty years, and at times utterly impassable, although the city levicd rates on part of the frontage. Tho City Council s new-born zeal, now it has the effect of clashing with the Government’s praiseworthy attention to the wants of what may he termed the “HuttWellington” residential area, is not only in bad taste, but unwarranted, as the city lines have reached the limit of the eitv boundaries, and the Council has no right to. go further, to-the detriment of railway enterprise.—l am, etc., „ I', HENRY BODLEY.
