CONTRIBUTIONS TO POLITICAL FUNDS. LONDON, October 25. The refusal of the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies, Mr J. D. S. Shn : to sanction trade unions paying contribution- to a salary for -members of Parliamc ,t—a decision which the ruling of ids predecessor, Mr E. W. Brabrook —is causing a good deal of comment. Sir Edward Clarke and Sir Robert Reid have given the opinion that the trade union rule in regard to the payment of members of the House of Commons is legal. A test action will be unless Mr Smi, who lias ruled otherwise, reverses his recent decision.
