CONVEYANCE TO SCHOOL. PROPOSALS OF THE DEPARTMENT The Government proposals for tiro airriago to school of children, in outlying districts aro as follows: Payment will l>o made to Boards for children conveyed to school by van or other vehicle, or by boat or ferry, as ■follows:— Sixpence per day for each child conveyed in accordance with the regulations to and from schools previously ■approved by the Minister. No payment will bo made for children under seven years of ago unless Ihoy aro accompanied by at least tin equal number of children over twelve years of age. No payment will be made for any child under ten years of age unless the distance from his home to the school is over three miles by the nearest road ; for any child of ten. years of ago and Upwards unless the distance from his home to the school is over four miles by tlie nearest road. Pay men ts will be restricted to (a) cases where schools are closed through tow average attendance, and (b) cases In which the only other provision that Dan be made would be by the building .d>f a new school, or tho rebuilding of a school that is decayed. Tho money si: all bo paid.quarterly or yearly. The Education Board has decided to sand the circular containing these proposals out to all committees.
