THE NIGGARDLINESS OF OUR RIGHT

Times/’) Sir,—lt might be useful if some of your correspondents who have been dilating upon the shortcomings of our wealthy citizens would furnish a stand- . ard by which citizens can be judged worthy of the attribute wealthy. Those kindly-hearted people who have so much ♦time at their disposal that they cannot help using a large part of it in dictating to other people How to manage their own concerns, could then be more specific in their references. At present, their letters are demoralising to the community for the dominant precept throughout would seem to be—All ye who think yourselves artists, abuse your neighbour for niggardliness until he builds you an art gallery and fills it with pictures for you to slobber over.—l am, etc., ONE IN THE GALLERY.
