WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25. Tho Council met at 2.30 p.m. EDUCATION RESERVES. Tho Education Reserves Bill (No. 2) read second titcio, put through committee without amendment, and read a third time. NEW BILL. Tho Horowhcmia Block Act Amendynorit Bill was introduced by the Hon Mr Pitt and read a f.Tst time. LOAN BILL. Tho Aid to Public Works and Land Settlement Bill was intreduced from the House of Representatives and read a iirefc time. CRIMINAL COLIC AMENDMENT. When the motion to take the bill •/the. Slander Bill) in committee wa.t moved by the Hon Air I’itt, an amendment was moved by the lion Air Bigg that tho bill lx: referred to the Joint Statutes Committee. He considered that the measure was to put a gag in tho mouth of the public. After considerable del,ate, similar to that on the occasion of the second reading, the amendment was lost by 22 rates to 2. At danse 2 (offence of criminal defamation), tho Hon Air Kigg moved to kill the clause, and incidentally tho hill’s principle. He talked at great length in order that the adjournment might be reached, his object being to gain time to draft a new clause. Tho Council •adjourned at 0 p.m.
