FARMERS’ UNION.
PRESS ASSOCIATION. OAMARU, October 24. At a meeting of the local branch of the Farmers' Union, held to discuss the Colonial Executive’s electoral circular, the action of the executive was severely criticised by some. It was finally resolved—" That the circular re election be received, and that test questions be put to candidates on the platform as a guide to the electors.” The agricultural education proposals wore discussed, but no decision was come to. Mr Donald Borrie, a member of the union and of the Education Board, said provision was already made in very desirable form for this very instruction, lie had no sympathy with the proposal to make children take agricultural subjects. The syllabus already -were very largo, and the addition of agricultural subjects might deprive a scholar of his best chance of ’ securing a high school education free. In regard to the harvester combine it was unanimously resolved—“ That this meeting protests in the strongest manner possible against any addincdjal dutv being imposed on agricultural imple'ments."
