VICE-REGAL “AT HOME.”

AN ENJOYABLE ENTERTAINMENT. Tile "at home" given at Government House by bis Excellency Lord Blanket and Lady Blanket on Saturday evening was exceedingly pleasant in character. Their Excellencies received at the entrance to the tastefully decorated ballroom, which was arranged for the nonce as a concert hall, and the guests took seats to listen to a satisfying concert programme arranged in the best of taste. The programme was opened by Mr Cyril Towsey, who interpreted Schubert's “Wanderer Fantasia," with fine expression. Mrs Glover Eaton sang Frank Lambert's "Barque at Midnight," and later Max Strange’s pretty song "Damon." Master Victor Harris, the gifted ten-year-old violinist, played a pretty “Romance," by Dambroso, with marked feeling. He'was encored and gave Bohm’s dashing "Moto Berpetuo," with equal polish. This is the study that the young genius Mischa Elmer, recently discovered at Home, played when commanded to perform before Queen Alexandra. Later in the evening the boy played a mazurka of Mlynarski’s. in which conglomerate double stopping in vivace passages are a feature, and quite captivated his hearers by the skill with which he rattled through the difficulties of the piece. An imperative encore produced Beher’s "Ber. eeuse," a dreamy air played on muted strings. Mr A. 8. Ballance was in capital voice, and sang two of Wallace’s Freebooter songs, (a) “Son o’ Mine" and (b) “The Rebel," with admirable force and feeling. His second contribution was Braun’s ballad. “Ever So Far Away." The "Jewel Song" from "Faust” was sung by Miss Lynn Mills,, the possessor of a flexible soprano voice, who was a good deal bettor suited in the “Kiss Song" from "II Bacio." For the latter item she was encored and sang Alicia Needham’S pretty song "The Links' of Love.” Mr Towsey demonstrated his ability as a solo pianist in Chopin's “Ballad in Aflat,” and also in the accompaniments.

Supper was provided at the conclusion of the concert.
