Twenty-five rural sections remaining on the Flaxbourue estate were under offer th:s week, and the necessary balloting took place to-day. There wore thirtysix applications for one small farm and nineteen of these sections w*ere disposed of to Marlborough and Canterbury people. The stock, valued at .£SOOO, was insured in the Alliance and New Zealand offices for .£2OOO, and in the National office for .£500: the building in the New Zealand and Alliance offices for J 3600. Stock just landed by the Mamari to the value of .£IOOO was uninsured. The dead body of a male infant was found on the Town Belt between the city and Eoslyn. The police are making inquiries. It is believed an early arrest will bo made in connection with the death of the Chinaman at Tapanui.
