A FISHERMAN IN TROUBLE.
CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER. PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLANDj August 16. A fisherman named William Reid, who was previously charged with assault on Mary Donovan by catching her by the throat, was to-day charged with the major crime of attempted murder. It is alleged that the accused, who kept a woman on a fishing boat, was drinking hard with others on Sunday last, and in a row on board seized her by the throat, and threw her overboard. She and police assistance was at once forthcoming. Accused denied the charge, and laid that the woman was drunk, and fell overboard while crossing over to another boat, which was tied to his own. The ease was adjourned til! Friday to enable the accused to get further evidence, bail being refused.
