ARBITRATION COURT.
PRESS ASSOCIATION, DITNT7DIN, Avgust H A rather unusual case came before th* Arbitration Court to-day, when the Inspector of Awards proceeded against Alexander Thompson and eight of his employees for breaches of the sailmakers* award. It was admitted that the men were not working at schedule rates, but in defence it was contended that the union was not in existence, and tho citation' was bad i that tho union being defunct, the term of the award had expired; that the department had failed in ii* duty in allowing a defunct union to remain on the bodies, and respondents were not re*, sponsible for the wrong action of tho ]>*. partraent. After hearing evidence and legal argument, the Court reserved it& decision, as some important legal lions were raised. A dkpute between master butchers and the operative butchers was withdrawn* tho provisions of tho act not having been complied with.
