PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, August 16. Dr Bamford, Opposition candidate fO*' the City East at the coming election, addressed a large and enthusiastic meeting at the Foresters' Hall this evening. Ha criticised tho administration of tbe Government. He was iu favour of the present liqlior law. and the Bible-in-schools referendum: also of the freehold. GISBORNE. August 16. A mimic representation of Captain Cook’s first landing in New Zealand. took place to-day for the purpoegmf obtaining kincmatographic views by Major Perry, of the Salvation Array biorama. The scene was at the historic landing place and it is believed highly interesting films will result. The proceedings were watched by a large number of people, DUNEDIN. August 16. Donaldson, a miner at Kaitangata, died in the Dunedin Hospital, front injuries sustained through being pinned in a mine bv a truck. PEILDING August 16. An elderly man named W. C. Hanker was found dead in a paddock on Hay's property, Kiwitea. yesterday. The deceased went Out in. the morning to out firewood. At an inquest a verdict of death from natural causes was returned, INVERCARGILL. August 16. The police visited the Gladstone Temperance Hotel last night, and are said ta: have seized some spirituous liquors. The house is kept by Mrs McAuliffo.
