THE AWARUA BLOCK.

TO BE OPENED SHORTLY. THE SURVEY COMPLETED. The survey of the Awarua In block has been completed, and the land will be thrown open for selection within a month or two. The block lies on tbe eastern or loft bank of the Rangitikei river south of the Mangatera Gorge, tho land running up the slopes of the Ruahino ranges. One’ part of the block is within thirteen miles of Mangaweka, access being from TJtiku, on the Main Trunk line. The river flats are 1400 ft above the sea, and the general elevation varies from that level up to 2500 ft. Tho open river fiats are suitable for ploughing or cropping, and the slopes for sheepfarming. A portion of the estate, amounting to 7428 acres, will bo cut up into eleven sections, varying in area from 290 to 830 acres. It is proposed to bring this land under the provisions of the Bush and Swamp Lands Act, which will provide for exemption from rates and rents for four years. Another portion of the block, 7068 acres, has been subdivided into two small grazing runs of 4558 acres and 2510 acres respectively. It is also proposed to bring this under the Bush and Swamp Lands Act. There is very valuable timber on 3795 acres of tbe block, and tho right to remove this will be put up at auction for cash in three lots. Approximately there are 31,635.090 superficial feet. Numerous inquiries are already reaching the department and the Board regarding the Awarua block.
