THE “ NEW ZEALAND MAIL.”

WELLINGTON’S ILLUSTRATED WEEKLY. The “New New Zealand Mail” issued this morning contains judiciously-chosen extracts from the most interesting news of the week, specially contributed articles and correspondence, and several fine illustrations. The fiction department has another instalment of 11. Norman Silver’s wellwritten serial, " A Daughter of Mystery," and several pages of complete stories, original and selected, among which may be mentioned “Dead Man’s Chair," by Owen Oliver, and “Between Life ami Death,” by Adeline Sergeant. The literary notese for this week comprise a review of Mr Carl J. Fuchs’s book, “The Trade Policy of Great Britain and her Colonics.” short notices of several novels and other works, and literary gossip collected from various sources. The health notes consist of a popular treatise on the causes and treatment of cases of paralysis by Dr Andrew Wilson. Copious extracts arc given from articles of interest in the most recent magazines. "Country News” is as full and interesting as usual, and all the chief political developments of tho week will bo found in the sections devoted to Parliament and political meetings. Turf doings and athletics are, as usual, a specially strong feature, all the loading fixtures and meetings being dealt with. Several pages are devoted to beautiful process pictures, among which arc views of Queen’s. Gardens, Nelson, the Nurses’ Home. Wellington, and St. Mary’s Orphanage. Stoke. A page is given to glimpse? of that peculiarly New Zealand industry, "grass seeding.” The portraits include those of two local ladies as they appeared in costumes representing Wellington firms at "Ye Okie Bnglishe "Tayre.-” There are also excellent portraits of the late Hon H. K. Taieroa and the late Councillor Wiltshire.

The recent meeting of the North Island Poultry Association at Hastings is illustrated by portraits of groups of officials and visitors, and by excellent snapshots of several of the champion exhibits.
