LOSS OF A STEAMER.

WRECKED IN THE WANGANUI RIVER. PRESS ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, August 14. One of Messrs Hafrick and Co.’s new steamers, which cost £2OOO, struck a boulder eight miles below Taumaranui on Saturday on the down trip. She had a big hole ripped in her bottom, and subsequently sank. The crew were safely got ashore, and tho crow walked back to Taumaranui, where they procured an oil launch to bring the passengers on to Pipiriki, where a larger steamer awaits them. It is expected they will reach Wanganui to-night.
