BRIBES REFUSED.
NEW YORK, May 30. Although the lessees of the Philadelphia gasworks offered the municipality five millions sterling for an extension of the lease for fifty-three years, accompanied by' enormous bribes to Councillors to vote for the concession, the Mayor induced the Council to reject the extension.
