THE NEW GUINEA SUICIDE.
MESSAGE FROM CAPTAIN BARTON SIR EDMUND BARTON TO INQUIRE MELBOURNE, Juno 33. Mr IV. M. Hughes, Federal Minister for External Affairs, lias received a message from Captain Barton (who was conducting an inquiry into the disturbance between tho Memo England and tho natives at Now Guinea). Captain Barton announces tho suicide (mentioned in yesterday’s cablegrams) of Air Robinson, a judicial officer at New Guinea, and states that arrangements had been completed for Air Robinson and othci witnesses in the Alorrio England affair to leave on the day of his death. He adds that no native witnesses wore sent, as All- Robinson had informed him that ho did not require their evidence. Sir Edmund Barton expects to leave feat Thursday Island on the 37th, to commence the inquiry, if it is not cancelled, on tho Stli July. Mr Hughes stated that Cabinet would to-day consider whether it would cancel tho inquiry. He expressed regret at what had happened.
THE STRAIN OP MENTAL WORRY. (Received June 24. 1.8 a.in.) THURSDAY ISLAND, June 33. Mr Robinson’s death is attributed to the strain of mental worry and the effects of tlio inquiry into the affray with tlio Goaribari natives.
