I • SATURDAY’S MATCHES. Saturday was an ideal day for bowling. As far as ' weather is concerned this season, Wellington bowlers have boon exceptionally lucky.__ WELLINGTON GREEN. On the fourteen rinks, with their 112 players, were representatives from Thorndon. Victoria. Newtown, Petone and tlm Hutt, and thcro was an unusual,ly largo number of onlookers present. At tho conclusion, Mr Heywood, on behalf of tho visiting bowlers, and particularly of the- Thonuloxv Clup, expressed’appreciation of tho hospitable manner in .which they had boon entertained by the Wellington Club, which bad provided-ihern with, perhaps, the finest day’s bowling it had been their privilege to experience. He congratulated tho Wellington Club, Mr William Muir and thosiP who had assisted him, including -tho president, Air J. A. Plnniner, on the able way in whicn the gathering had been organised and the day’s proceedings managed. ■Ho also paid a compliment to the ladies who had provided the afternoon tea, and expressed tho hope that the occasion was but tho first of many similar successful days’ howling.’ He Jid mot think there was any other club in New Zealand that could have entertained so many visiting bowlers on its green. Mr PHmmcr, replying on behalf of tho Wellington Club, said it was always a pleasure for tho Wellington bowlers to entertain visitor*. Ho invited them to drink success to the Wellington Club. The toast was dimly honoured, and was followed by three cheers, given by the visitors for tho Wellington Club and its president. XHORNDON CLUB.
