THE ENGLISHMEN IN; QUEENSLAND (Received November 28,. 0.39- a.m.) BRISBANE, November 2/. Warner's team began their match against Queensland to-day. Hie weather was fine and the wicket good. Hayward. Hirst and Tyldesley stood out. The local team, after an inauspicious start. Patrick succumbing to the first ball, made a good stand. The batting at first was slow and cautious, the first hour yielding 50 runs. Dr MacDonald came in third man, and was joined by Evans when throe wickets were down lor 70. . The partnership adttod_9s runs, and provided an ■excellent display of allround cricket. Evans played with great brilliance and dash. The rapidity of his scoring mSy be judged from the fact that at one period bo made 27 in 20 minutes. MacDonald played a sound defensive game. Newtown (requiring 59 runs to win with one wicket down for five runs) resumed batting, butcould only score 45 runs against the splendid bowling of Johnston and W. G.
