THE PLUMBING TRADE.

A meeting of plumbers was held _ in tho Technical class rooms last evening to consider certain resolutions hearing on matters which have recently been discussed by the Master -Association and the board of the Plumbers’ Union. About twenty persons at*°Mr was voted to the chair, and briefly explained tho object of tho meeting. Ho said_ tho trade wished to consider the advisability or establishing a complete system of instruction for apprentices. It could bo taken that tho meeting represented employers and employed, and he considercd it was in tho interests or the trad© and tho public generally that the resolution to bo submitted should bo carri°M r Riley then moved, “That all apprentices Ibo required to attend tho Technical School for a full course of instruction.” Tho school, he said, had done good work, and was instrumental in giving apprentices an insight into tho trade, but it night do better. The new departure did not mean financial gain for tho school. It was not a monoy-making venture, but a matter of tho highest importance to tho trade, it instruction was to be thorough. Mr T. Ballinger seconded the motion, which was earned. It was further agreed by tho meeting that an apprentice should not ho entitled to consideration unless he should have obtained a satisfactory report upon his year’s work from the Technical Soho oil and his employer. It was decided that tho course bo for four years as follows: —First year, arithmetic, geometrical and model drawing, with elementary practice in setting” out sheet lead; second, theory and practice of plumbing (elementary); third, ditto (advanced); fourth, ditto, with examination for certificate;, tho certificate to bo issued upon tho apprentice attaining the age of twenty-one years and having served five years at tho trade, in accordance with present regulations. The new instructor (Mr George Reid) was introduced to the meeting, and a unanimous vote of thanks was accorded Mr Robert Scott, late instructor.
