RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Ratepayers’ Association was held last evening. Mr A. B- Wilson presided, and there were thirteen members present It was suggested that the members of tlio Ratepayers’ Association should visit the AA’ainui-o-iuatA waterworks. After some discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr E. Arnold, to inspect the works. A sub-committee was appointed to make arrangements for the outing. The chairman, in introducing the subject of municipal elections, said there was a desire on the part of a large number of electors in the city to see a change in tho City Council. The association had to consider Avhafc part it would take in the elections. Personally tho chairman wag averse to tho association nominating any man; what members should do eras to look round and see what men could be selected from amongst the ratepayers to stand for election. Several members spoke in the same strain. . Messrs E. Arnold, T. Kelly, A. L. Wilson, C. Plimmer and J. McAlpine wore appointed a committee to select candidates from amongst ratepayers (not necessarily members of the association). A notice of motion pointing out tho necessity of a city market where fish, fruit and produce could be sold was discussed. Air AV. A. Worth proposed, and Mr H. Hurreli seconded, a motion declaring that the time had arrived for the city to have a public market, and that the Corporation should take the matter into its early and serious consideration. It was decided to bring the question up again at the next meeting of tho association.
