RIFLE SHOOTING.

WELLINGTON VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATION. The sixth annual meeting of the Wellington Volunteer Rifle Association was held at Troutham yesterday in beautifully line weather. A right-tear wind blew along the range and interfered to soma extent with the long distance shooting. Sixty-six entries were received for the various events. Amongst those who took part were eleven members of the ere tv ol H.M.S. Wallaroo. This is tho first occasion on which inen-o'-wavsmen have participated in an important Volunteer ride association’ meeting in the colony. With a view of encouraging junior riflemen, the contests were divided into senior and junior divisions, and the prize money (Al 5 for each match) was divided equally between the two classes. This bad iho effect of inducing considerably more juniors to compete than seniors. The meeting was opened by Major Brandon. in the absence of Colonel Collins. Colour-Sergeant Lacey, assisted Private 11. A. Kavoa in the duties of secretary, and in the conduct of the meeting. Mr Cropp was in charge of the marking, and performed his duties creditable, the targets being rarely challenged. Private ,1.
