THEATRE ROYAL. Tim Dix Gaiety Company played befpro a holiday audience last night. Tho contributions of tho Misses Ida Roslyu, Emmie Smith and Beryl Gilman were all redemanded by the audience, which also testified unmistakably to the accoptahlcness of the turns given by Arena and Boyd, Kearns and Roslyn, Frank Yorko and Alberto. “ SHERLOCK HOLMES.” -At the Opera House this evening, Conan Doyle’s remarkable creation, “Sherlock Holmes,” will be given by Mr J. C. Williamson’s dramatic organisation, headed by Mr Ouylcr Hastings. Tho principal characters will he enacted by Mr Ouylcr Hastings as Sherlock Holmes, Mr H. Stewart as James Larrabee, Mr J. B. Atholwood as Professor Moriarty, Mr Lumsden Haro as Dr Watson, Mr Edmund Gwenn as Sidney Prince, Mr Frank Hollins as Sir Edward Leighton, Mr Roland Stavely ns Alf. Bassick, Mr Fred Patoy as Craigin, Miss May Chevalier as Alice Faulkner, Miss Mabel Lane as Madge Larrabee, Miss Nina Herbert as Mrs Faulkner. Misses Minnie Terry and Julia Merton as Tberese and Sirs Smeedley. Several new effects in electric lighting are to be shown for tbo first time. Tbe curtain is raised and lowered while the theatre is in total darkness; thus each scene appears suddenly before tho audience, and at tho end of each act it gradually fades from view. Tho same scenery and stage adjuncts as wore used in Melbourne and Sydney in tho production of tho piece have been’ brought over by Mr Williamson. so that its production will be complete in every detail. Tho company will arrive this morning by the Rotomahana. The booking for to-night has been very heavy.

Tho Dean Vaudeville Company entertained a big audience at tho Choral Hall last ni"ht 'with a special holiday programme. All tho performers were well received. . , , At tho Opera House last night the Anderson Dramatic Company concluded a highly successful season. There was a good attendance at the Exchange Hall last night to w itness an eight-round boxing _bnut between Sturgeon, champion middle-weight of Australia, and Mace, of Wellington, Both men were heartily applauded tho conclusion of the exhibition, which was declared a draw.
