(From Our Special Reporter). Thursday. Al/ J. F. Nathan has been appointed to succeed the lato Air Kendall on tho Palmerston Hospital Board. Tho Sydney stook-buyers who aro operating in this island visited Masterton yesterday, and return to Palmerston to-morrow. At tho local stock sales to-day there was a small yarding of cattle, principally of young classes and backward dairy stock, Which mot with a very dull sale. Four pens of eight bullocks elicited keen competition, and sold well, making tip to £9 11s. Tho quality of tho sheep yarded was indifferent, and business was dull. Tho Awahuri settlers have decided to obtain a supply of water for stock purposes at tho junction of tho throe roads, opposite tho hotel, and the Alanawatu County Council has agreed to assist the work. Tho U.F.C.A., of Palmerston, has received advice from London that complete arrangements have been made for tho distribution tho.ro and in tho provinces of poultry exported by the association. The association is at present engaged in establishing tho poultry business on an extensive basis, and it is satisfactory to know that producers will by their action bo able to find a steady and profitable market for their birds. , At tho present time the duly telephone communication between the town and the local Railway Department is by a wire from tho goods-shed on the opposite side of tho lino to tho station. At last this portion of tho poor railway conveniences existing at Palmerston is to be remedied, tho Railway Department having notified the local Chamber of Commerce that tho parcels office will bo connected by telephone with the goods-shed.
