MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 14. (Before Mr W. R. Hascldon, S.M.) Seven first offending inebriates were convicted. George Reynolds was fined 7.5, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. James Ross and Wisby Harris were each fined 10s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. Richard Smart admitted having stolen a brief bag, containing clothing valued at £4, tho property of Air Rutledge, from tho Rotomahana, on tho lith inst., at Wellington. His Worship sentenced tho man to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour. A young man named William Sutherland was charged with having stolen £5 from his employer, T. P. Lyons, at Wellington, on tho Bth March, 1002. Tho hearing of tho case was adjourned until the IStli inst. Bail was granted. John Griffiths and Gcorgo Sinclair pleaded guilty to having stowed away on hoard the Wcstralia on tho voyage from Sydney to Wellington. They explained that work was so scarce in Sydney they had to leave that city. A fine of £5, in default ono month’s imprisonment, was imposed in each case. Francis Daly admitted having stowed away on board tho s.s. Wainrai from .Nelson to Wellington. Ho was lined 20s, in default seven days’ imprisonment. CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment was for plaintiff in tho following cases:—The Corporation of Wellington v. Denis O’Sullivan, £2 13s 3d, costs Gs; same v. Thomas Dryden, £5 10s, costs 8s; the Wellington Rowing Club v. Thomas Vospcr, £1 10s, costs 8s; Commercial Agency v. Malcolm Walker, £5 8s 9d, coats £1 18s 6d; same v. David P. Fisher. £2 2s 6d, costs 16s; same v. Gcorgo Glassford, £9 6s lid, costs £1 3s 6d; same v. David Briggs, 11a, costs X4s; Scott and Co. v. David Briggs, £l9 9s 4d, costs £1 ■ls: Schaefer and Co. v. John Wheeler, £l6 17s, costs £1 10s 6d ; Wardcll Bros. v. Stanley Chaplin, £6 Is 6d, costs £1 3s 6d. John Rod sued J. B. Hulbcrt for £1 10s, rent. Judgment was for plaintiff, with 6s costs.
