CARTERTON.

(Own Correspondent.) Friday. Dr Valintine, District Health Officer, inspected the Carterton school this morning, and states that some of tho rooms are not properly ventilated. The doctor also states that the school latrines are archaic, and should either be pulled down or rebuilt. Further, he says that the vessels which aro at the disposal of tho children for drinking purposes might easily be the moans of spreading an epidemic amongst the whole of the scholars. As a setoff to the school’s many shortcomings, the doctor thinks the playground is one of tho best in the country. Yesterday, at the Dreyerton Presbyterian Church, Alice, second daughter of Mr H. Hercock, a one-time well known Carterton settler, was married to Harry, eldest son of Mr H. E. Palmer, farmer, of Dreyerton. There was a largo attendance of residents from tho surrounding district, and after the ceremony, which was performed by tho Rov R. Young, the whole party attended a bill given by the parents of the bride, and danced till daylight this morning. ‘ The annual meeting of St. Mark's parishioners was held last evening. There was a largo attendance. The vicar, Rev R. Young, presided. The report stated that there was a deficit of £IG 3s sd. Tho vicar pointed out the necessity for an increase of Christian workers, and he referred in moderate terms to certain opposition which was being displayed towards himself. Mr AV. Downard was elected synodsman.
