PAHIATUA.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Monday. A meeting of settlers was held at Mangatainoka on Saturday night to protest against a resolution passed by ihe County Council at its last meeting with reference to having reserves in the county vested in that body. Resolutions were passed disapproving of the County Council’s action, and requesting the Minister of Lands to refuse the application, and to have the reserves vested in the township of Mangatainoka. Copies of the resolutions are to be sent to the Minister of Lands, the member for the district and the county chairman. The Crown Dairy Company is now paying milk suppliers 8)d, with a promise of a farthing bonus on the season’s output. Mr Stevenson, tho Government remount purchaser, was in Pahiatua on Saturday, and secured several good animals. A site for the Pahiatua Drill-hall has been secured in a central position, and steps are being taken to have the building erected forthwith. Complaints are made, by back-blocks settlers in the Pongaroa district of the bad state of the roads. Drays are continually being hogged.
