There is also on board for East Coast ports 651 tons of cargo, 559 tons of which is for Auckland. There are also 40 rams for Napier and 16 rams for Gisborne. On Saturday morning tho Botorua arrived at AVellington from Nelson and Picton with 2500 cases of fruit. The vessel sailed again for Picton and Nelson at 12.30 p.m. tho same day, and will return to AVellington late to-night or early tomorrow morning. The Karamoa left yesterday morning for Lyttelton. Tho ship Auckland, now on her way from Dunedin to Napier, will take on. board a large quantity of wool, and come on to Mjtlhngton to complete loaning operation, prior to sailing for London. Yesterday morning the ship Melville Island left AVellington for London. The barqnentine River Boyne sailed yesterday morning for Newcastle. The Tyser steamer Hawke’s Bay is expected to arrive at this port from AVangnnui to-day. Tho AA’aikato arrived from Lyttelton yesterday morning, and was berthed at the Glasgow AVharf, where she will take in a quantity of cargo for London. The Tarawera arrived from Lyttelton on Saturday morning with 27 rams, consigned to Mr H. Willis, of Featherston. The vessel left for the South, in the evening with 40 horses for the Southern section of the Ninth Contingent. The schooner Joseph Sims is to mad produce at Lyttelton for AVellington. Tho John Townley, the dredge which Messrs Anderson have constructed Inr the Gisborne Harbour Board, has two steam winches and a powerful firo engine capable of throwing 750 gallons a minute. The signelman at Farewell Spit lighthouse reported on Saturday that a large barque passed at 2 p.m., bound to the eastward. Captain Hillman, of tho Corinna, has rejoined bis steamer, and Mr McDougall, who was relieving temporarily, is at present in Lyttelton. Captain Adams, of tho Poherua, arrived from Lyttelton yesterday by the Rotomahana and will return South by the same vessel this evening to rejoin the Poherua. The following additional information concerning tho new coal-carrier Mercedes (referred to in Saturday’s issue), is of interest:—"The most interesting craft placed in tho water by the Northumberland Shipbuilding Company is the above-named vessel, which has a gross tonnage Of 4315 tons, and was built for a Cardiff firm. Tho main object of the owners was to possess what might be termed the finest collier afloat, equipped in tho most perfect manner for very rapid handling and discharging. By the arrangements to be carried out it is anticipated that a cargo of nearly 7000 tons can be discharged from the steamer in about sixteen hours. No doubt this unique vessel, when completed, w— attract considerable attention On the part of ship-owners.” To-morrow morning tho Mana will arrive at AVellington from Patea with another load of butter for transhipment to London by the Delphic. The Mana will return to Patea again the same day, arriving back here on Thursday with a consignment of butter to be sent to Melbourne by the Westralia. Tho Kiripakn is at present delayed at Greymouth and according to the local agents will reach Wellington on Wednesday afternoon.

The Queen of the South arrived at this port on Saturday afternoon from the East Coast, with a quantity of wool for transhipment to London. The Te Kapu arrived from Havelock yesterday morning. The Manaroa also arrived from Motueka yesterday afternoon with a consignment of fruit. The former boat leaves for Havelock and Sounds this afternoon, and on Wednesday the Manaroa is to sail for Colliugwood, Takaka and Motueka.

Mr Douglas, late second officer of the Wainui, has been appointed chief officer of the Herald, and Mr Morrison, late second officer of the Herald, has assumed Mr Douglas’s duties on the Wainui. Mr Robinson, late chief officer of the Herald, has gone to Dunedin for orders.
