CARTERTON.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Wednesday, 4.30 p.m. The Taratahi-Carterton Eoad Board is applying provisionally to the Government for a grant of £3OO for the construction of the Gladstone Longbush road. The Postmaster-General has informed Mr Hornsby that his proposal for a bi-weekly mail service from Carterton to Wharau will bo adopted. The Wha. rau Post Office will bo in chirge of Mr H. Knutson. The Wainuiom office will close, and the mail will be earned to Land’s End, the residence of Mr Douglas. Postal notes will bo issued from the Wharau office, and if necessary, a money order office will be opened. The anal examination of pupils of the St. John Ambulance Association took place last evening under tho supervision of Dr Johnston. There were seventeen candidates, all ladies, and the papers have been forwarded to Wellington.
