DUNEDIN HOSPITAL.

Special to the “Times.” DUNEDIN, August 21. At a meeting of the Hospital Trustees, the allegation made by Mr T. Maoken. zie, M.H.R., of ill-treatment in the Dune, din Hospital by a nurse waa the subject of heated condemnation, and it was decided to ask the Government to open a Magisterial inquiry into the statements made. The chairman characterised Mr Mackenzie as “a sensationalist who wanted to gain notoriety.” Since the speech ie had received telegrams of commendation of the treatment of former patients, several of whom offered to give evidence. He strongly condemned Mr Mackenzie for not bringing the matter before the hospital authorities instead of waiting to got behind his Parliamentary privileges. To do so was unworthy of a memlier of Parliament. It was suggested that in the event of an inquiry being refused by the Government two citizens bo selected by the trustees to hear evidence in the presence of the press. Mr Arnold was warmly commended for his defence of the hospital.
