PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. Some opposition is being offered to the Bill promoted liy the City Council to empower it to borrow money to carry out a scheme of obtaining a water supply from the Waimakariri river. The Waimakariri and Ashley Water Supply Board asserts that the scheme might militate against its water races, the intake for which is at the same spot in the Waimakariri Gorge as the- proposed intake for the City Council’s scheme. The Board has taken legal advice on th» sub. jc-ct and .has obtained a civil engineer’s report on the Council’s scheme. The matter has been referred to a special committee of the Council, which has been empowered to withdraw the Bill if it thinks necessary.
AUCKLAND, August 5. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board has decided to build a maternity ward in connection, with the Hospital. ’
