LOSS OF A STEAMER.
THE LUSITANIA A TOTAL WRECK. TERRIBLE SCENES OF PANIC. ST. JOHN’S, June 27. The steamer Lusitania, at one time engaged in the Australian mail service while on a voyage from Liverpool to Montreal, went ashore at Cape Ballard, Newfoundland. Five hundred passengers who were on beard were saved. ■ Later, The Lusitania-is a hopeless wreck. When tho vessel struck the passengers became panicastricken, and tried to rush the boats, using their knives. The officers with difficulty regained control. The women and children, almost naked, were dragged up the cliffs by the inhabitants.
