On Thursday and Saturday of next week (25th and 27th inst.) tho autumn meeting of tho local Metropolitan Club is fixed to be held at the Hutt. The Thompson Handicap is a popular event, and the Now Zealand St. Loger and the North Island Challenge Stakes are other important events set down for decision on the opening day. The intentions of owners will not be known till the 20th, but recent form may be taken as a fair guide to what may be expected. The Wa-iwetu Handicap, of seven furlongs, will start tho totalisator bell ringing. Several of file top weights will probably g,o out and be reserved for other races. Ostiak (Sst 6lb), on his Feilding form, has a chance. St. Mark (Bst) has only to run up to his Hastings form—whore ho won the Autumn Handicap, one mile, with Sst 21b, in Imin 44scc—to bo there or thereabouts at the finish. Lady 801 l won over a mile at Feilding with 7st 91b. West Guard is also nicely handicapped at 7st 61b. Of the nuartette named, St. Mark and Lady Bell arc named in that ordor to supply tho winner. Tho Maiden Hack Race is run over six furlongs. The scale of weights is slightly in favour, of three-year-olds according to w.f.a. So late in the season the two-year-olds have all the oost of it, and a useful one of this age may win. If Benefactor starts he should run forward.

The Thompson Handicap, one mile, is sai re to provide a good field. There are several horses engaged who appear to have a likely clianco on paper. With only 21h more than he carried to victory in the Great Easter Handicap, the Hon George McLean’s Pampero cannot bo considered other than favourably treated. Rosella (Bst 71b) has only gone np Sib for her victory at Ellerslio, and she Is pretty certain, to put in an appearanno. Okoari (Bst 61b) only meets Rosella. on 21b bettor terms than at Auckland. Cameo ran well at Riccarton, and is most likely to come here. The Autumn Handicap, on tho second dav, is more to his liking. Palaver could get no nearer than sixth in the Great Easter at Riccarton, but with 11b more on her back the next day won the Great Autumn all tho way. She has tho same weight as -she carried to victory there. Pampero should hold Mel wood (Bst 21b) safe. The latter shoidd boat Cora Linn on their Riccarton running. Sylvia Park (Bst 81b) is meeting' Crusoe l (Bst 71b) on 121 b worse terms than at Feilding, where the distance was, however, two furlongs further. Fashion (7st 101 b), St. Mark (7st- 91W. Field Rose (7st 71b) and Queen’s Guard (7st 51b) have nothing to complain of on'the score of weight. Pampero. Rosella and the best of tbe local division (Melwood or Fashion! should furnish tho winner. They are not a good lot engaged in the Hurdles, one mile and three onarters. The race looks a fairly good thing for Long Tom, (list 131 h). on his Riccarton form. Others who may get a place are Waiwcra (list 81b) and Sudor ((Dst slb). I The Welter Handicap, nine furlongs, is herded by Crusoe (list 121 b), who may. 'however, run in tho Thompson. Mr I Evett. has asked Ruatnabanga (list 71b) ' to give Volley (9st 111 b) a. liberal al- , lowance for a defeat at Featherston. j where the pair , met at a difference) of 11b. The Hempie (9st 101 b) and Water-

ford (9st 51b) read tho best of the others.

Acceptances for tho North Island Challenge Stakes, seven furlongs, are due on Friday next. Air Stead’s Alcnschikoff has incurred a 14lb penalty. He should follow tho lead of Formosan and Screw Gun. It is hoped that Nonette, who has also earned 141 b penalty, will put in an appearance and settle the riuestion of supremacy between the northern and southern two - year - olds.

No fewer than twenty-four horses are weighted for the Hack Handicap, one mile. Alongonui (at Napier Park) and Plaidio (at Feildiii” l have recent winning form to recommend them. Good reports come from Wanganui as to Boseplot i'7st ollil. itnoina and Bonne Esperanco both shaped well at Tauuerenikau, and the success of one of this pair is probable. Some of the lightweight division may show track form before the day that will entitle them to

consideration. The winner may come from Boseplot, Racma and Bonne Eypcrauco.

'Tim host ef the .sprinters will he reserved for the Railway Handicap, six furlongs. The race carries a penalty' of 101 b for any previous win during the day. and is 'worth £2OO, whereas tho Waiwotu is worth only half that amount The Shannon (&st 111 b). Melwood !Bst 101 b, if reserved for this event. Glcnoglo (Bst 61b) and Tupuhi (But Gib) read as well ns anything. Osborne out out six furlongs in Imin ICseo at Tauhorcuikau with 6st 7lh on his back. Ho has an outside chance. The winner may come from Glenoglc or Tupuhi. The New Zealand St. Leger Stakes is run on the second day. Boddingt.nu, on bis Century Stakes form, at Ellorslie has a- rosy chance. He, Field Rose and Cnnuio duel should fill the places. Tl will probably bo the only starters.

Sir George Clifford (chairman) and Messrs T. Motrin and C. Hood-Wil-liams, the judges appointed by the Racing Conference to consider the appeal lodged by the Southland Racing Club against the reversal by the Dunedin Jockey Club of a decision disqualifying William Swalo and tho ■ horse Zcohan for twelve months, and the jockov William Pine for three months*, find that there is not sufficient corroboration of the charge of fraudulent inconsistency. They, therefore, confirm the decision of the Dunedin Jockey Club, the evidence of the previous owners of the horse showing his utter unreliability. The secretary of the. Nelson Jockey Hub notifies in another column that bookmakers, spielers and other undesirable persons will not be admitted to the Richmond Park racecourse.
