The Harbour Board and tbe Government will each erect an arch, i making four altogether. The committee • allocated £I7OO for covering the arches, street decorations, illumination of arches, bunting, carriages, printing, secretarial expenses and fireworks. It was considered necessary to get £IOOO by private sudscription, and the city was mapped out into districts for collection. Tbe_ committee resolved'that tbe presentation of medals to school children being a colonial and not a civic matter, tho cost should he home by the Government. DUNEDIN, March 28. A large and representative public meeting, convened by tho Mayor, was held in the Town Hall to make preliminary arrangements in connection with the approaching visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. Before the meeting closed, Mr John Holnicu, the Government Executive Commissioner, who arrived by the express, put in an appearance and spoke. Tho meeting was enthusiastic and unanimous, except as , to detail. The Hon. G. McLean, in the course of some remarks, said this was a case in which they should be prepared to expend freely. The question of funds should never have been raised, and would not have been had the Premier been approached in a more considerate manner. Membdrs of both Houses wonid willingly assist in passing an Indemnity Bill. A motion was carried to give tho Royal visitors a welcome worthy of such a great \occasion. An Executive Committee, representative of Otago and Southland, was appointed, and also seven sub-committees.
