Fears are entertained as to the safety of the schooner Louisa Lamont. Some of the wreckage found at Gabo Island is said by those who know the vessel to belong to her, (Received March 29, 1.17, a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 28. The fate of the. Federal is ’ still unsolved. Departing vessels have been instructed to keep a sharp look-out. A steamer from Sydney to-day reports that she ran close to Gabo Island, but saw neither wreckage nor indications of any survivors.: * ’ ■ The latest advice from Gabo states that some wooden ship’s beams came ashore, which could not possibly have belonged to the Federal. , ' In Some quarters the recovered body is supposed to be that of Henderson, the first officer of the Federal ; in others' that it is the captain of the schooner Hawaiian Isles, which lelft Melbourne ten days ago. This adds the possibility of! the latter’s wreck to the other uncertainties.
Later evidence goes to show that the Louisa Lament is probably not in the vicinity of Gabo.
