’ STAR BOATING CLUB. Tho fust two boats of tho McLean Folk's were rowed yesterday afternoon | over tlie northerly course. The crows in tho first beat were; TV'. Stevenson (bow), T. Hamer (2), A. H. Jobnstcno (3), C. E. Dowland (stroke); E. Davidson (bow), J. D. Scott (2), D. TV. Duff (3), F. Gale (stroke); and TV. Warren (bow), H. G. Lewis (.2), N. H. James (3), A. Fell (stroke). After a good raco tins heat was won by tho cr#w stroked by Dowiand. In the second heat tho crews were: —J. T. Watkins (bow), F. Taylor (2), TV. It. Hackworth (3), A. Bayfield (stroke); TV. Stavoley (bow). TV. TVes.ton (2), 0. H. Skelloy (3), TV. H. Rose (stroke); and F. Gill (bow), W. Highmau (2). R. Gray (3), C. Oswin (stroke). Bayfield’s crew succeeded in winning this race by two lengths and a half, there being a close finish for secondplace between Rose and Oswin, tho former being one foot ahead on crossing the lino. Both heats were started by the dei uty-captairi (Mr H. u. Wiggins), and mdgetl by tho canto in (Mr G. H. Bet'.r.iuo). The races will be continued this evening if the weather is favourable. A meeting of rowing men connected with the various rowing clubs is tc bo held at the Star Club-Boathouse this evening, to - arrange for the for* uw;on of a permanent regatta com- ; mutcc Li Wellington; ■ ■
