Tho Premier has received a cable from Lord Kitchener, advising-him of the deaths, from entefio fever, of 461 Private Colin McDonald, of the Second Contingent (Kihikihi), and 1077 Private J. R. Lament, of tho Fourth Contingent (Oamnru).

SEVENTH CONTINGENT. The majority of the members of the Seventh Contingent departed for Trentharn by special train at about nine o’clock yesterday morning. As set forth in the "Times” of yesterday, advantage is to bd taken of tho open and hilly ground in the Trentham district to carry out sham attacks on tho camp, marching manoeuvres', skirmishing, etc., in addition to a thorough course of rifierhooting practice. The Wellington company of the contingent went out to Trentham.on horseback, as an escort to the transport waggons. SergeantMajors Price and Burr accompanied tho mounted men, and Sergeant-Majors Tuck and 1 Morgan the dismounted men. With the exception of a few invalids and tho necessary attendants on them, the Newtown camp is now deserted.

Major Owen has gene into camp with the Seventh Contingent at Trentham. At Gotlber's Rooms Inst night a sendoff was given by the City Rifles to Sergeants Halpin and Pepper and Trooper Anderson, of the Seventh Contingent, all of whom were until lately on the roll of tho company. Captain Duthio presided at the gathering, which was a most enjoyable one. No. 1 section, tf which Sergeant Halpin lately had charge, presented him with a handsome ridingwhip, silver-mounted and engraved. No. 2 section, lately under Sergeant Popper, presented that soldier with a handsome pipe, a cigar case and a fountain Den, while No. 3 section presented their ate comrade (Trooper Anderson) with a sil-ver-mounted pipe. No. 2 section of the company made presentations of silvermounted swagger sticks to each of the guests.

Tho Premier has received a cablegram from Sydney stating that twenty-five members of Now Zealand contingents . who have returned! from South Africa, left Sydney on tho 23rd instant in the steamer Waihora for Wellington, under Sorgctint Wilkinson.
