STRONG RESOLUTIONS

At last night’s meeting of the Hutt Borough Council-a letter was received from the Hutt River Board, stating that the only obstacle) now in the way of comj nicncing the. river protection works was the uncertainty as to when the new bridge couldbe erected. It was pointed out that as the river protection works would bo worst)-than useless unless a much larger space was provided under tho bridge than existed under the present structure, the River Board would , lie reluctantly pomp oiled to postpone) the ■ date for tho consideration cf .tenders for j tlio work. It was also resolved that the .River Board bo informed that it is the intention of the Borough Council to confer with tho representatives of the district with a view to arranging for an immediate settlement, and the approval of the Government of the plans and site for tho bridge, and that the Council hopes- that in the- interests of the die. trict the Board 1 will not delay in carrying on the river;
