FITZGERALD’S 'CONTINENTAL V CIRCUS. ' In consequence of the strong; southerly wind last night, the Fitzgerald Brea, decided not to give a performance. The company and animals arrived in the morning from Lyttelton by the steamers Oorinna and Maura. Great expedition was showri in the erection of the hug© canvasses and the amphitheatre, and but for the oncoming of the gale everything would have been in readiness for the evening. The force of the gusts, however, put tho raising of tho upper canvasses to their full height out of the question. The proprietors ere deserving of sympathy for having encountered euch hard luck after the very (complete? jarranaftmenta which they had made for the reception of the public. A! large, number of people were disappointed through the untoward upsetting of arrangements. There was, of course, nothing to, prevent.the proprietor* giving a performance, but as the teat could not be raised to its full height the programme would necessarily have been shorn of its most attractive features—the aerial perfomanccs of several bight particular “stars." Under the circumstances and in order to keep faith with the public the Fitzgerald Bros, very rightly resolved not to open their season until to-fiight, when the whole of the advertised attractions, will be submitted. In spite of the threatening weather a crowded house greeted Dix's Gaiety Company at the Theatre Royal last night, when the programme so successfully introduce ! on Saturday night was repeated. A capital house warpresent at the Choral Hall last night, when the Empire Vaudeville Company again appeared in the big and attractive bill for the week.
