AEAWA SAILING CLUB. The fine weather prevailing on Saturday afternoon enabled the Arawa Sailing Club to hold a scries of races under most favourable conditions . Four separate classes .of yacnts started, and with the addition or several non-contestants, the• numerous ' sails gave the harbour quite an animated appearance. The handicaps w-ore framed by Messrs H. McComish and T. M. Collins. Mr G. C. Highet, assisted by tho secretary, was timekeeper and starter. In the race for air W. G. Baker’s trophy, three yachts faced the starter. Viking and Syren got away together, with Muritai 25scc later. Syren soon forged ahead, and increased the advantage at. every mark-buoy, finally finishing 4min 53sec ahead of Muritai, the latter boat, with an allowance cf smin, winning by tho narrow margin of Vsoc. Tho following are tho times and handicaps : —Syren, (3min), 4hr 20min 2soo; Muritai (Bmin), 4hr 33min 55scc; Viking (scratch), 4hr 41 rain Sosec. _ Rona (scratch) and Mawhiti (smin), did not start. , In tho race for tlie Waitangi Cup, Kofcuku ran away front Teroa, and won by 19min llsoc. A foul occurred during tiiis race; thoroforo the result will be held in abeyance until further inquiries by the committee. The half-raters sailed tho second heat for tlie Champion Pennant, Dauntless revenging her defeat in the first heat, by beating Arawa, with 4min 10;:-eo to spare. The final heat, next Saturday afternoon will ' have more than ordinary interest for these boats and their crews. Both .boats have , scored an equal number of wins dbring tho season, and, therefore, next Saturday the winner will carry off Mr, A, H. Turnbull’s trophy, the Champion :Pennant of the season, and tho Perham. trophy, tho sailing master of the ’ victorious craft winning Mr G. AY. Leslie’s trophy for the most successful '-helmsman ,in the club, meso trophies:represent-a valuable stake, and will produce the finest match of the season.- ' .
