FITZGERALD BROS.’ CIRCUS

Messrs Fitzgerald Bros. circus and menagerie will "open this evening on the reclaimed ground. Iho co Hi pc ny and animals left Lyttelton by tile Corinna and Moura yesterday afternoon. and are expected to arrive at an early hour this morning. Since its last apnoarance in Wellington tho combination has been .greatly augmented, both in the menagerie and circus, and the whole combination will, of course, appear here. Tho large marquee encloses a space 275 ft long by 150 ft wide, and was built specially for the new artists who have been engaged in England.. The high jumping of the champion horse Newhaven is a feat well worth witnessing alone, and equine and equestrian acts form a large part of 1 1 1 e programme. The acts in which the tiger, lion and elephant appear are nearly ail quite now. The beasts are under the control of Herr Zapf, who puts them through their performances. The prices are 4s, 3s, 2s and Is; children half-price in all parts except the pit. The circus d'd excellent business in the South, wnero its performances are highly spoken oi.

THEATRE ROYAL. Dix’s Gaiety Company appeared at tho Theatre Royal on Saturday night before an immense audience, in an entirely new bill. Mr Bob Hall, comedian, who bar; re-joined the company, met with a favourable reception. Ivlessrs Frank M. Clark, Hayden and Cowan, Sliss Olive Lent on and Little Nina introduced some novelties in sketches, songs and dances. Mr Coleman and Miss Lottie Lornewere also seen to advantage in novelties from their attraotice repertoires. The scarecrow dance was encored again and again. The Tylers were deservedly applauded, and the Gonzales Sisters were greeted with appreciative cheers for their clever turns.-The new music received adequate treatment at the hands of Mr Morton W. Smith’s excellent orchestra. CHORAL HALL. A crowded and well-pleased audience rewarded the clover artists comprised in, Fuller’s Empire Vaudeville Company with repeated re-calls and rounds of applause at its performance at tne Choral Hall on. Saturday night. The programme was entirely new, and mil of attraction. Messrs Fred Bluett (who completes a three years’ engagement and takes a benefit on Thursday night), George Williamson, Jack Williams and Sinnotte worked as hard as usual, and as successfully *is ©v©r, to amuso tho audience. Miss Maud Failing, Miss Lena Young, Miss Bessie Young and 3liss Coralio , Barlow all won deserved encores in their new songs. 31 r W. B. Cadzow, the popular tenor, again met with a good reception.

’Mr Walter Monk, advance agent of Alontgomory’s Bioscope and Concert Company, has arrived in town to make arrangements for a three weeks’ season at the Opera House. Tho scholars of the Taranaki slreefc Sunday school, assisted .by tho Wesley Orchestral Society, _ will give a concert of anniversary music ■at . the Wesley Church, Taranaki street, to-morrow evening. The proceeds will be devoted to tho funds of tho Wellington Sunday School Union. The anniversary of the W.C.T.U. Girls’ Association will be held at tho Trinity Wesleyan Church this evening, taking the form of a fruit soiree, with music and singing. Addresses will be given by ladies attending tiio convojjtion and there will bo a dialogue, unde rtho direction of 3liss May Harvey.
