MEETINGS.
Mr R. H. Davenport, who is a candidate for a seat on tho City Council, will address a meeting of burgesses at the Victoria Hall, Newtown, this evening. A public meeting will bo held, by the Progressive Municipal Association at the Rechabite Hall, Manners street, to-mor-row evening. Mr John Hutcheson, M.H.K., will be among the speakers. The nrst quarterly meeting of the newly-formed Canterbury Society of Wellington -will be hold at the Trccadero this evening. The Hon W. C. Walker will occupy tho chair. It is stated that an enjoyable programme will bo submitted. An invitation is extended to all old Canterbury residents to bo present. At a meeting of the Marist Brothers’ Old Boys' Association last evening, arrangements for the publication of a magazine in connection with the association were completed, the name of the paper to bo “Tho Catholic Magazine ’ (being tho organ of tho association), ami the motto, “Magna est veritas et prevalobit.’’ It was decided to have a quarterly issue, with a charge of sixpence per copy, or an annual subscription of two shillings. Mr E. J. Fitzgibboa was appointed editor, and Mr J. M. O’Reilly and Mr P. Foley subeditors. Tho annual meeting of tho Red Cross Association Football Club, which was to have been held last evening, was postponed sin© die.
