EASTER ENCAMPMENTS.

TO BE ABANDONED THIS YEAR. GENERAL GATHERINGS IN JUNE. • The Minister of Defence having communicated with the officers commanding the various volunteer districts throughout the colony, and having ascertained that the majority of them do not—in view of tho military demonstrations which will take place during the visit of the Duko and l Duchess of Cornwall—wish to hold encampments at Easter, has adopted the recommendation of the Commandant of tho Forces that Easter camps be this year abandoned. Author, ity has, however, been given for the mounted rifles 'in tho Otago and Canterbury districts to. have separate camps, the Southland corps to have a district .camp at Wyndliam, the Nelson corps to have a camp near Nelson, and the Wellington coips to. go for a four clays’ march in the Wairavapa district. . Railway passes for ficidi days on Easter Monday have been grantee! to tlpc Can. terbwy District Volunteers. A general camp will be held in each of tho four centres during the occasion of the visit of their Royal Highnesses in the month of June.
