The Wellington Provincial Industrial Association intends giving a farewell dinner to Mr T. Ballinger, one of its vice-presidents, and Mr E. Hannah, on Saturday, tho 23rd hist., the eve of their departure for Great Britain.
Tho Premier last night received a message from Dunedin, stating that Mr Morrison, M.H.R., had immensely improved iu health. The doctors now think that Mr Morrison is not suffering from cancer, and ho is expected to recover in a few weeks.
Mr William Reece, Mayor of Christchurch, who is ■on his way te. Europe, arrived iu Wellington yesterday, and is to continue! his voyage by the Rotoiti this afternoon to. catch the San Francisco steamer at Auckland. He is accompanied by Mrs and. Miss Reece.
The Hon J. G. Ward, Minister for Health, has received a telegram stating that Dr Pomare, Native Medical Officer for the colony, will remain in the Hot Lakes district uniil the Maoris have made a start to improve tho sanitation of their settlements, and he will afterwards visit all the other native centres in the colony with the same object in view.
