The proposal is to Increase the salary of the position, but not necessarily the salary of the teacher who at present fills that position. The Board will bo asked to, adjust appointments and make transfers, if required, to improve the efficiency of the service. If /the proposed scale of assistants, is approved, as it probably will bo, ■there wdl bo more appointments to bo made to some of tho larger schools. At tho meeting of the Wanganui Education, Board on Monday, on the motion of Mr Pirani, it was decided to call the attention of tho Education Department to the fact that salaries paid to teachers in. tho district would have been lower in tho past only for the fact that the Board’s allowances to school committees were based on a velry inadequate scale, and to urge that in proposing any additions to salaries th© low allowances to school committees in the district should ho taken into consideration.
